Anti-Palestinian Racism — Public Education
What is Anti-Palestinian Racism?
Anti-Palestinian racism is a form of racism that “silences, excludes, erases, stereotypes, defames or dehumanizes Palestinians or their narratives.”
- Arab Canadian Lawyers Association
My name is pronounced Bee-SSAN, if you were curious.
I’m a Canadian of Palestinian descent — born in Toronto and raised in Ottawa — who has been happily settled in Waterloo Region for about a decade. I have worked on Parliament Hill, in think tanks, and with tech startups; I started working for myself in 2019 as a consultant focused on helping build more equitable and inclusive nonprofits.
Like many other Palestinians, 2023 presented a seismic shift for me. I saw for the first time just how pervasive and harmful Anti-Palestinian Racism (APR) has gotten in Canada and beyond, and decided to focus my efforts solely on helping organizations and individuals better understand APR and how it interacts with systemic oppressions.
I live with my partner and two dogs in Waterloo, Ontario. In my personal time, I’ve fostered and rescued eight dogs and three kittens, and I enjoy yoga, gardening, building LEGO sets, and arts and crafts projects.
Hi, I’m Beisan.
